JUSTIFICATION OF THE PAGE

Our Department of English is interested in getting in touch with other teaching centres, from both the European Union and all over the world, in order to create links leading to a closer participation in educative, linguistic, and cultural tasks, getting this way as much benefit as possible from the possibilities that the new ways of communicating offer nowadays.

EDUCATION LEVELS IN WHICH THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS INVOLVED

Our high school timetable is carried out through three different periods of time during the day: morning, afternoon and evening; each of them being independent from each other. The morning timetable runs from 08:30h to 14:50h; the afternoon timetable runs from 15:00h to 20:30h, and the evening timetable runs from 17:30h to 22:30.

COMPULSORY SECONDARY EDUCATION

(Morning timetable exclusively)

This is a two-cycled level and English is present in both of them:

  • -In the first cycle of this level (for students aged 12 to 14) students must handle the basic structures of the language.

  • For the second cycle (students aged 14 to 16) students must handle more complex structures and those frequent situations in which English is involved.

BACHILLERATO OF SCIENCE, BACHILLERATO OF TECHNOLOGY AND BACHILLERATO OF HUMANISTIC AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

(Morning and evening timetables)

As to the Bachilleratos, whose duration is of two years and cover the age of 16 to 18, the English language teaching is planned according not only to a correct handling of grammar and current situations, but also to the contents and demands concerned in each Bachillerato, that is to say contents on science, contents on technology, and humanistic and social contents.

 CYCLES OF VOCATIONAL LEARNING

(Morning, afternoon and evening timetables)

We expect it will not take long before English is included in the Spanish vocational learning system, which as a whole has been widely developed in our school for over twenty years, and of which the I.E.S. "Canastell" is a qualified exponent within the Valencian Community and even outside. This will then allow us to enlarge the possibilities of our Department to offer them to other teaching centres in the European Community.

ACTIVITIES OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE DIDACTIC DEPARTMENT

Pen-friends. This is an activity which is usually carried out by students of all the levels at school every year.

Theatre. Every year our students attend several theatre plays.

Frequently enough, our students visit some tourist places nearby, where people from abroad usually spend a good part of the year. There they get in touch with them, and ask them questions about different aspects which have been previously programmed and then included in a project.

The Department is always ready to help the teaching departments at school get in touch with different institutions in other countries. This has been so since our school has taken part in several programmes of the EU, such as the EU Leonardo Programme.

COLLABORATION WITH OTHER CENTRES OF THE EU

The English Teaching Department is always ready to take part in the projects of other centres of the EU, both institutionally by joining any of the already existing programmes or by means of particular contacts with other schools.

Pen-friend correspondence between students of different levels.

Exchange of materials which may be of mutual interest related to the enlargement of the other country or region knowledge, and also those related to interesting education aims.
