FIELD TRIP TO

Last 30th of March all Canastell 4th ESO groups (year 10 students) visited the printing office of the second largest newspaper in Alicante, Costa Blanca News, located in Benidorm near the shopping centre La Marina. One of the editors, James Parkes, kindly offered himself as an English guide. It was the second time Canastell school was welcome to this printing office.

Two main objectives were attained: on the one hand, our students became aware of the vast English-speaking community living in our area and their relations with Spanish people; on the other hand, they practised their listening-speaking skills in an English guided tour that provided them with important information about English newspapers and how they are printed.

In the office, James Parkes gave us a brief explanation of the editing process.

James said that they must match the negatives up properly so that they are not blurred.

An important question was: ‘ Do you think Costa Blanca News helps to integrate tourists and English-speaking residents into our Valencian Community? The answer was: ‘Yes, it definitely does. It gives them information about Spanish taxes, food, culture, local festivities and so on. We also include a section for learning Spanish language’.
